I have done a fair share of sea fishing over here on Gt Bernera, but keep passing some great looking lochs while out wandering...often with the odd fish jumping.

Am I right in thinking that most all the lochs on Lewis are free to fish for trout? Some of these lochs never see a soul...and one wonders what fish might be lurking. To that end I have managed to second a great wee cane fly rod my Grandfather used to use and will likely have a go soon.

I was wondering how you guys go about loch fishing? Fly/bait/lure? Are there any recommended flys that get good results here?

As you can tell, I'm a complete noob to this type of fishing...but any advice is most greatfully received.

Cheers

Try loch na muilne on the road to bostadh, the roadside bank has a nice drop off ledge running along it so you dont need to cast far. The narrows part is usually good for a fish too, but can be weedy.. good luck!
